The Evidence. April 2005
A piece of work commisioned by 'New Perspectives theatre company' for the american play
'The Evidence' By playright Frank Manley. The director Daniel Buckroyd took the unusual step
of employing film with the performance. I designed six film 'dream' sequences that coincided
with various points in the play, culminating with the final 'revealing' sequence which ended the play.On stage the sequences were played through old tv's scattered around the main character's room -
He happened to be a Tv repairman, which fitted in well).
The premise was, that he had seen something in the woods while hunting, possibly a big foot
creature or possibly it was a dream? At key points in the play this character would fall asleep
and the fleeting, jumbled images of what he had 'seen' were presented to the audience.
We did a night of filming in Nottingham forest to shoot various key points we wanted in the
films, this included the filming of the 'creature', which involved one of the actors wearing a
specially made mask.....say no more.
This is a funny and atmospheric play and works wonderfully well, of course my favourite
bit is the end, when the last sequence reveals all, it gives you goosebumps!WATCH -
Opening sequence - The trip to the woods.
Sequence 2. - something comes out of the woods......
Sequence 3 - What does Lee see at the campfire?
The final sequence - What did he really see? All is revealed....
